I had an idea for a (what I thought would be fast) baby quilt for my son’s tutor, who was about to have a baby. New babies have a hard time focusing their eyes when little, so what better to use than (mostly) black and white prints! Some black and white checkerboard fabric would make a perfect center piece, along with snippets of red, white and black prints as a border. This quilt was almost entirely improvisation, including the red and white pinwheels in the corners.

on the back, I used some Minkee fabric in dalmatian print ( as in “101 Dalmatians”). It was super soft and cozy – just perfect for snuggling. What I didn’t know was how hard it would be to sew (very slippery!), so I had to use a walking foot.
