What’s a 9-Patch?

Imagine a big square made of 9 smaller squares — like a tic-tac-toe
board. You sew those 9 little fabric squares together to make one big
square. That’s called a 9-Patch block.

 What’s “Disappearing” mean?

You take that nice 9-Patch block you made… and cut it up! Then you
move the pieces around in a fun new way. It makes it look like magic —
the original 9-Patch “disappears” and becomes a fancy new pattern!

 Method #3 — What’s different?

In Method #3, here’s what you do:

Sew your 9-Patch block like normal.

Then cut it in 3 parts — first across (horizontal), then up and down
(vertical), like a big plus sign (+). You now have 9 pieces.

Next, you swap or rotate some of those pieces. You might:

Turn the corner blocks.

Move side blocks around.

Keep the center square in the middle.

Finally, sew the pieces back together. Now it looks like a super cool
design, way fancier than when you started!
